Katy - Going to LA

Saturday, September 6th, 2008 | Headshots | No Comments

Katy and I did a photo shoot this past week.  She’s heading off to LA to begin her career in acting.  While she has been acting in school, as well as dancing, this will be her largest experience in attempting to break out.  Best of luck in LA Katy.

Shawn Mehling @ Riveted

Friday, September 5th, 2008 | A Day In the Life | No Comments

We’re coming up on a years time Shawn and I have known each other.  I’ve seen a lot of his clients for headshots, and have had a lot of fun with them.  Shawn’s great, his low key attitude with professional skills is a great combination to help his clients feel comfortable and know that he will work hard for them.

Shawn and I have more casual conversations, and other than him always wanting to know what I’m wearing all the time, he’s a good guy.  His experience in the field has proven to be a great asset to his clients, and he’s able to bring people up to speed with his training classes.

Below you will find some of my favorite pictures of his clients from over the year.

To see all of his clients I’ve shot: http://chrisblackburnphotography.com/Riveted

Color & Tattoo’s

Thursday, September 4th, 2008 | A Day In the Life | No Comments

I’ve been with a club called Coffee & Cameras.  They get together twice a month and try to do new types of shoots.  I haven’t been to one in a while, but I thought it would be worthwhile to post some pictures from a previous session.  Sara was the barista at the coffee shop, and for a stand in, did a great job.

Victorian - Layton

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 | Weddings - Engagements - Bridals | No Comments

What a great place to shoot.  Too bad I only had one hour including ceremony to do something there.  There are a lot of great photo opportunities there that we were not able to hit.  Next time!

Canon 40D

Friday, June 6th, 2008 | A Day In the Life | No Comments

I was able to go down and pick up a Canon 40D two days ago.  I have been very impressed with its performance, colors, and feel.  Last night was my first time taking it out on an shoot.  B98.7 Breeze was hosting free Jazz at the Gateway, so we decided to go.  Of course I was using my always willing stand in model, my son.  I absolutely love how strong the colors are and how blue the sky is, these are all raw images that I have not photoshoped at all.  Out of the box this camera has proven its might.  I look forward to using it a lot more.

This week I went up to Mill Creek B with a group of photographers I shoot with once or twice a month.  We were up there to shoot moving water, well of course I got side-tracked and decided to shoot a few other things.

You can view my favorites from this shoot here:  http://chrisblackburnphotography.com/Artistic/W&F/index.html

I had also built a beauty dish the previous weekend and tried it out on one of the persons daughter that was up with us.  I got the idea from the strobists at  http://strobist.blogspot.com/.

Baby’s First Year & Promo Launch

Friday, May 2nd, 2008 | A Day In the Life | No Comments

I’m excited to present a new photo package to my portfolio. Having a son, and a baby on the way it makes one reanalyze oneself and their priorities.

This got me thinking on how important the first year of a baby’s life is. How fast it passes, and how its hard to get all the great photo’s you would really want of this time.

So I have put together some packages for maternity, and baby’s first year. As with all my packages, you will get a CD of all the pictures, a slideshow, and a photo album to remember the whole year.

I am also launching a new promotional program. This is a referral program and the details are below:

For anyone who refers and books two weddings (any package), two baby first year, or one baby first year complete package, I will pay for a Spa Treatment at the Grande America Spa center.

There is not limit on the number of times I will send you. You will be compensated when the wedding is paid in full; this could be when they first book, or up to the day of their wedding. Please contact me for more details.

Henna on the Backside

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008 | A Day In the Life | No Comments

This past weekend, I worked with a local Henna artist with a space up in park city.  We shot three consecutive days of her Henna art.  First day was application, second day was post application, showing the progression of coloring.  The third day showed the brightness of the Henna.

The week before I was playing around with my 85mm 1.8 lens and figured I’d shoot through it backwards.  At first I was a bit frustrated that a lot of the edges were really blurry, and most of the overall image was blurry.  I kept shooting, and played around with what effects I could get out of it.

Below you will see me putting some of these effects into play.  I’m very pleased with the results.

Look for more of these projects in my artistic section of my site, but you can directly link to this photoshoot here:

Printing

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008 | A Day In the Life | No Comments

Recently, I have been blessed by a un-named person with giving me a HP B9180. This printer is the best thing a photographer like myself could have. The pictures it produces are absolutely beautiful. I am surprised at the performance of this printer. I keep on thinking when a pictures comes out, “this is as good if not better than prints from my favorite local printer!”

This harkens back to my days in the darkroom, where I can tweak things, and see an instant print (well nearly instant) of how it looks on paper. This is a great step forward for me, and am looking forward to what will be the outcome because of this.
