My Vision: Neo-Classic Noir
My work is an exploration of the duality of the human condition: the tension between emotional vulnerability and internal strength. Drawing inspiration from the dramatic lighting of the Dutch Masters (Rembrandt) and the high-contrast aesthetic of Golden Age Hollywood and Film Noir, I create images that are both deeply emotive and classically sculptural.
I treat the human form, and increasingly the environment, as a canvas for expression. My images are defined by dramatic light, deep, moody tones, and a deliberate focus on subtle gesture to convey a narrative without ever spelling it out. I believe the most powerful art invites the viewer to project their own truth onto the subject.
The Process: From Digital Capture to Creation
My aesthetic is a synthesis and rebirth of historical processes and modern technology.
- Luminosity and Texture: My signature look involves combining the modern precision of digital systems with vintage optics and diffusion filters. This allows me to capture subjects with an emotional, ethereal glow, creating images that feel rendered like a fine art painting rather than a simple photograph.
- Alternative Roots: My technique is forged from my background in wet plate collodion, paper negatives, and hand-colored prints. I maintain a textural focus in every digital file that is designed to look like a silver gelatin or ambrotype print.
- The Final Object: My final artwork often transitions from digital negative to physical form, utilizing processes like Cyanotype printing and finished with unique material elements, such as selective gold and copper leafing, creating a physical art piece that glows with its own inner, unstable light.
